That his estate was worth $400,000 yet described as 'little to nothing' is amazing. Is the cause of Allen's death know, or is that to be included in a future post?
Right? I think because at the time people thought he was worth 10M or so, which was a ton of money even then!
Allen died of a throat infection, I think the autopsy showed “acute extensive general edema of both lungs and very moderate edema of the larynx”. The odd thing - another odd thing - was that a few months earlier, he had told his assistant that if he ever died suddenly he wanted to make sure there was an autopsy. Now, whether that was because he was worried he'd be poisoned or something, or simply because he thought his death might move science forward somehow or for another reason is up for grabs. Interesting fellow tho, for sure!
