When I started reading this my mind immediately went to JFK's sister, Rosemary. Who at the age of 23 , her family allowed a surgeon to do a lobotomy on her to change her behavior. Rather drastic and it ruined her life.
Really interesting to read Lori. The Yellow Wallpaper is such an interesting piece of work when looking at hysteria. I first read it for my degree about 25 years ago and it stayed with me. I immediately drew on it for my book and own post on Substack. Thanks again for this post
Thanks, I think I read it in college in 1981, so that’s how old I am lol, but like you, when I started getting into the story of Aimee Henry and how her mental health was manipulated and weaponized against her, I knew The Yellow Wallpaper needed to be included - even though I hadn’t really thought of the piece since Psych 101 all those years before. Good writing does that, right? Stick with us until we need it :)
i'm glad you mentioned "The Yellow Wallpaper". It's a great short story I really enjoyed reading. I wanted to read "Herland", but haven't yet. It's on my list.
It's a good thing to remember our older sisters'sufferings and all the crazy cures they had to go through just because they couldn't stand the way women were treated. Let's not froget!
Thanks, The Yellow Wallpaper is such a fabulous packet of the entire issue, right? Definitely a classic and one I’ve wanted to weave in since learning the details of Aimee’s mental health experiences. Glad you enjoyed the bonus material and thanks for your support!

Oh yeah, that’s a good example too, tho a little later in the timeline of mental health. Thanks!

Yes, it sure is!
I’m really enjoying the story and the sub notes!
Thanks! I really like the idea of providing more information that might spark curiosity or even just make us think.
