Such a compelling post! I didn't know about this history of 'marriage as business' in Elkton or the origin and history of the Mexican divorce.

Iā€™d never come across either of those either, so was likewise fascinated by them. And I just scratched the surface! So many great stories - a bunch of big celebrities used Mexican marriages and Gretna Green marriages between 1912 and 1930, and some of the scandals were huge! Glad you enjoyed the bonus content!

I had heard of Mexican divorces but greatly appreciated the background and context to Aimee and John's situation. I'd never heard of Gretna Green marriages before so I learned something new and interesting. Great quotes from Dorothy Dix!

Thanks, and I love that you got something new out of the bonus post! The ability to add context outside the story itself is one of the things I love about Substack.

And re Dorothy Dix - she was such a powerful commentator of the day that Iā€™ve found her PoV really beneficial as Iā€™ve worked thru this project. Her story is pretty amazing, as well.
